York’s School of Kinesiology & Health Science ranked among the top 10 programs in Ontario by the 2023 Shanghai Ranking’s Global Ranking of Sport Science Schools and Departments. With 200+ programs to choose from, our strength has always been truly exceptional programs. York U is home to Canada’s largest liberal arts program, the only Space Engineering program in the country, a new Global Health program and a unique cross-discipline Digital Media program.  Our Centre for Research in Earth and Space Science has led the way in the development and operation of scientific instruments for three major NASA space missions over the past 30 years, and has also played a supporting role on seven other space missions to date. Our professional schools, Schulich School of Business and Osgoode Hall Law School consistently ranked among the best, and the School of Kinesiology and Health Science is ranked withing the top 100 in the World in the 2023 Shanghai World ranking in the Sport Science Schools and Departments.. Undergraduate Programs

  1. English Proficiency Tests:

    • International students must demonstrate proficiency in English by providing scores from one of the following tests:
      • TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language): Minimum score of 86 on the Internet-based test (iBT) with at least 20 in each section.
      • IELTS (International English Language Testing System): Minimum overall band score of 6.5, with at least 6.0 in each section.
      • CAEL (Canadian Academic English Language Assessment): Minimum overall score of 60, with at least 60 in each section.
      • PTE Academic (Pearson Test of English): Minimum score of 60.

  2. Other Acceptable Credentials:

    • Completion of a secondary school program in English in an English-speaking country may also be accepted.
    • Students who have completed at least one year of full-time study in a degree program at a recognized institution where English is the primary language of instruction may be exempt from English language testing.

Graduate Programs

  1. English Proficiency Tests:

    • Graduate applicants must submit scores from one of the following tests:
      • TOEFL: Minimum score of 100 on the Internet-based test (iBT), with at least 22 in each section.
      • IELTS: Minimum overall band score of 7.0, with at least 6.5 in each section.
      • CAEL: Minimum overall score of 70, with at least 60 in each section.
      • PTE Academic: Minimum score of 68.

  2. Other Acceptable Credentials:

    • Similar to undergraduate programs, completion of a degree in an English-speaking institution may also satisfy language requirements.
    • Some specific graduate programs may have additional language requirements, so it is advisable for students to check the specific requirements for their program of interest.

Additional Information

  • Language Assessment Programs: York University also offers English for Academic Purposes (EAP) programs to help students improve their English language skills before entering their desired programs. Completion of these programs may fulfill the English language requirements.
