Its traditions are connected to the founding of the first higher technical school in 1818 by Gheorghe Lazar. Born in Avrig, Gheorghe Lazar studied in Sibiu, Cluj and Vienna. University POLITEHNICA of Bucharest is the largest and the oldest technical university in the country and among the most prestigious universities in Romania.
