The University of Miskolc is located in North Hungary, at the foothills of the Bükk Mountains, in the city of Miskolc. The city serves as the center of the Northern Hungarian region and the university is not just a traditional institution of higher education but plays the roles of an important scientific/research and cultural center. It has its own extensive (85 hectares) and attractive campus with on-campus student housing, and excellent sports and recreational facilities (including high-standard athletic fields, soccer grounds, and a great number of tennis courts. All the lecturing and laboratory rooms are equipped to high standards and the spacious workshops include sophisticated technical facilities allowing also pilot-scale experimentation. A high-speed computer network and broadband wifi access are available all over the university buildings, including a large scale central library equipped with abundant computer terminals. The calm and dominantly green campus includes all the facilities required for not just the studies but also for the everyday life of students, it is rarely necessary to use the high capacity and well organized public transport to the city center within 15 minutes reach.

The Faculty of Earth Sciences and Engineering and the Faculty of Materials Science and Engineering share the unique traditions of technical higher education started in 1735 - recognized as the first in the World - at the predecessor of the institution. The largest Faculty is that of Mechanical Engineering and Informatics, established in 1949 at the current location of the university. Other faculties have been established in the past few decades to offer high scale education and research also in the fields of social sciences (law, economics), humanities, health care, and music. This complexity offered at the integral campus gives a special color and flavor to the University of Miskolc.

Study programs are available at bachelor (6-7 semesters), master (4 semesters), and doctoral (4 years) levels. Most of the postgraduate courses in the fields of technical and social sciences and also in humanities are offered also in English. The courses are based on strong theoretical foundations and developed to serve the practical applications for current and future needs. Lecturing and practice are well balanced, and courses are designed to implement modern methodologies.

The international student body of the university, representing some 50 countries, is increasing year by year. They are most welcome and taken care of by our International Office.  All new international students are offered on-campus dormitory accommodation, but in case of special needs, alternative solutions are assisted by eager and helpful office staff. Special guidance and mentoring are offered by a voluntary organization of our Hungarian students supervised also by our staff.

One special feature of the university is its student traditions, practiced in their professional communities handed down from the university’s origins of almost 3 centuries ago. National and international students are offered the chance to actively take part in all the research projects run by the institutes and departments in all the specialized fields. Scientific conferences are regularly organized for the best-performing students, who can take part in a variety of international competitions too, e.g. in computer science, building electric and special formula racing cars or robots, carry out mock trials and devise business plans.

Details of the institutional structure, courses, and international research projects are available in English at the website: www.uni-miskolc.hu.
