About The New School

Established in 1919, The New School is a non-profit private higher  education institution located in the urban setting of the large metropolis of New York City (population range of over 5,000,000 inhabitants), New York. Officially accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher  Education, The New School (TNS) is a medium-sized (uniRank enrollment range: 9,000-9,999 students) coeducational US higher education institution. The New School (TNS) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as pre-bachelor's degrees (i.e. certificates, diplomas, associate or foundation), bachelor's degrees, master's degrees and doctorate degrees in several areas of study. This 105-year-old US higher-education institution has a selective admission policy based on entrance examinations and students' past academic records and grades. The acceptance rate range is 60-69% making this US higher education organization a moderately selective institution. International applicants are eligible to apply for enrollment. The New School requires all applicants whose first language is not English to demonstrate English language proficiency through standardized test scores. They accept the following tests:

  • TOEFL iBT: Minimum score of 100
  • IELTS: Minimum score of 7.5
  • PTE: Minimum score of 68
  • Duolingo English Test: Minimum score of 120
  • Cambridge English (C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency): Minimum score of 191

However, applicants who have completed four years of high school where English was the primary language of instruction do not need to submit test scores, unless they took ESL courses. Additionally, students who have completed two full semesters of college-level coursework in English may also be exempt from submitting these tests​
